I was raised in Auburn, New York, a small, lakeside community in the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York. My career took me to several metropolitan areas including New York City, Miami, Buffalo, and San Francisco. Upon retiring in 2008, I moved to Rio Vista hoping to recapture the small community atmosphere I found so appealing in my hometown but lacking in other places I lived.
I have three children, two boys, and one daughter. Additionally, I am the proud grandpa of two granddaughters and three grandsons. As a father, I was involved in my kids’ sports activities, coaching both youth baseball and soccer teams as well as martial arts training. For recreation, golf is my main activity, and my long-time partner Kathy and I love square dancing and ballroom dancing.
I attended Rutgers University, then transferred to the University of Nebraska-Omaha where I received a BS in Economics and an MBA degree. Additionally, I earned both a Certified Managerial Accountant, Certified Financial Management designations, and earned my Senior Financial Analyst certification from the New York Society of Security Analysts.
I have 25 years of senior-level financial and managerial experience holding the Chief Financial Officer, VP Finance, Controller, and other financial positions for both public and privately held companies. I worked in the Wall Street financial district and have experience in the leasing, cruise line, and data storage industries. For the last 10 years, I have volunteered my services providing free income tax preparation to low and middle-income taxpayers, mainly in Rio Vista, through the IRS sponsored VITA program.
In 2014, the City of Rio Vista was dealing with serious financial issues and because of my financial background, I believed I could help turn things around. Also, as I was now retired, I had the time to dedicate myself to public service. I was elected to the City Council to fill a four-year term in November 2014. In 2016, I was appointed Vice Mayor. In November 2017, upon the passing of Mayor Norman Richardson, I was unanimously appointed Mayor of Rio Vista by the City Council. The appointment was to fill the remaining 3 years of his term.
As part of being your Mayor, I also represent our city at the County, State, and Federal levels. This is a critical duty. Because Rio Vista is small and somewhat isolated from the rest of the county, it is easily overlooked. The relationships I have built over the last three years help me advocate for our city ensuring we receive our share of funding and recognition. Some of the key committees and agencies on which I serve Include:
Solano Transportation Agency (STA) as Director and Chair-elect
Solano County Water Authority (SCWA) as Director and Chair.
SCWA Legislative Committee as Director and Chair.
Solano Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Agency as Director and Chair.
Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District as Director.
Local Area Formation District (LAFCO) as Alternate Commissioner.
Solano City-County Coordinating Council as Director.
Solano Economic Development Corporation as Director.
Solano County City Selection Committee.
Solano County Mayors Committee.
Delta Protection Commission as Past Commissioner.
In short, I have had the honor to serve and represent the citizens of Rio Vista for the last 6 years and am now seeking your support and votes to serve another four years as your Mayor. As I believe my education and experience attest, I am well qualified to serve in this position. I believe my financial training is exactly what is needed as our city faces the economic uncertainty created by the Covid-19 pandemic. I do not need any start-up time to learn how Rio Vista operates. I am ready now.
